Deloitte Consulting senior partner John Bell takes up role in November.

Fletcher Building has appointed John Bell as chief information officer.

Bell, a senior partner with Deloitte Consulting in Auckland, will take up his role in November.

Fletcher Building chief executive officer Mark Adamson said he was delighted Bell had agreed to join the company. He replaces Carl Powell, who resigned last month and went back to the UK.

“John will be responsible for delivering our IT strategy, which includes rationalisation of our core systems together with building out our new digital platforms. His extensive experience in managing the implementation of complex programmes of this nature will be invaluable and I look forward to working with him,” Adamson said in a statement.

Bell has over 30 years business consulting experience in both public and private sectors, leading complex programmes of work, from business case through design and implementation to post-implementation and benefits realisation.

He has also worked with Deloitte in Canada, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He has a broad range of experience in business strategy, sourcing, business transformation and information technology.

Fletcher Building is number four in this year’s CIO100, the annual report on the top ICT using organisations in New Zealand, with a 350-member IT team.

“Major focus areas for the IT team in 2015 include the continued support of our business transformation program; continuing to rationalise and modernise core back office systems; as well as driving high customer value digital initiatives,” according to then CIO Carl Powell.

Other priority areas for IT this year include initiatives in cloud computing and SaaS, mobility and e-business. Fletcher Building is also committed to investment in projects in the areas of business intelligence and analytics, security, unified communications, and business continuity and DR in the coming months, said Powell.
