Ministry of Health choses Accenture consortium for electronic health record programme

Accenture will be working with the ministry's EHR project team on the business case, which is expected to be presented to Cabinet for approval in June 2017.

The Ministry of Health has selected an Accenture/MartinJenkins consortium to support the development of the two-stage business case for the single electronic health record (EHR).

Accenture will be working with the Ministry's EHR project team on the business case, which is expected to be presented to Cabinet for approval in early June 2017. Depending on acceptance, the detailed business case will be delivered in late 2017.

The announcement comes after a competitive request for proposal process, with eight tenders received and evaluated by a joint team of both ministry and sector representatives.

“We were impressed with the depth and breadth of the responses – it was clear this is an area where a number of the respondents have niche skills,” says Giles Southwell, chief technology and digital services officer, Ministry of Health, in a statement.

“Accenture consortium’s response demonstrated key skills across the board that will help in developing a robust business case for the single EHR.”

“The team at Accenture and MartinJenkins are looking forward to working jointly with the ministry to deliver a strong, supported business case for the EHR,” says Leigh Donoghue, managing director within Accenture New Zealand’s health and public service business.

“This is an important digital health initiative with the potential to significantly improve care for New Zealanders while supporting further health sector innovation.”
