Microsoft has today revealed a new addition to the Surface family, the Surface 3, which will be available in New Zealand by early May.
Billed as the “thinnest and lightest” Surface yet, the device ships with full Windows 8.1 and can be upgraded to Windows 10 for free when available.
In a bid to lure customers over to the Microsoft ecosystem, the Surface 3 also comes complete with a one-year subscription of Microsoft Office 365 Personal, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, plus OneDrive cloud storage.
Frazer Scott, Marketing and Operations Director for Microsoft New Zealand, says like Surface Pro 3, Surface 3 is a tablet that can act as a laptop replacement.
“Powerful and efficient, Surface 3 is optimised to run full Windows and Office and features long battery life,” he says.
Pricing wise, the Surface 3 with 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage will retail at NZ$799.00, while the device carrying 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage will hit Kiwi shelves for a price of NZ$959.00
According to Scott, Surface 3 can be purchased via three retailers in New Zealand - JB Hi Fi, Noel Leeming, and Harvey Norman.
The device can also be purchased commercially, through Datacom, Spark New Zealand, Cyclone Computers, Acquire.co.nz, and The Laptop Company.

“We’ve taken everything we learned making Surface Pro 3 and poured that innovation into this newest Surface.

Powered by the new quad-core Intel Atom x7 processor, Surface 3 aims to be “quick and responsive” but us designed to maximise efficiency with up to 10 hours of video-playback battery life.
Further enhancements include a 10.8-inch ClearType HD multi-touch display featuring 3:2 aspect ratio, stereo speakers with Dolby as well as a three-position kickstand.
The Surface 3 can be paired with new accessories which are sold separately, including the Type Cover (RRP of NZ$199.99) which is offered in a variety of colours, the Surface Pen (RRP of NZ$79.99), a Docking Station (RRP of NZ$309.99) and a Screen Protector (RRP of NZ$79.99).
