Samsung Electronics does not expect delays in the production of its upcoming Galaxy S5 smartphone, after a fire broke out at a supplier's factory in South Korea on Sunday.
The electronics giant said Tuesday it is working to stabilize operations at the supplier DAP Corporation. "In the meantime, we do not expect any production delays of the Galaxy S5, as we rely on multiple contractors," the company said in an email.
It's unclear what the factory produces, but DAP is known as printed circuit boards producer.
Pictures of the fire were posted online, showing plumes of black smoke billowing from the facility's windows. Firefighters later extinguished the flames on the same day, and local reports added that there were no injuries.
The Galaxy S5 is scheduled to go on sale globally starting on April 11, and comes with advanced features, including a fingerprint scanner.
The flagship Galaxy S series has become one of the biggest money makers for the South Korean company. But competition in the market remains stiff. Apple's latest iPhone is one of the most popular selling smartphones in the world, and rival HTC is expected to announce a new phone at a company event later this month.
In last year's fourth quarter, Samsung reported slowing profit growth, a sign that the competition is chipping away at the company's smartphone sales.
The company's previous phone, the S4, sold over 10 million units less than a month after its launch last year. It was the best selling debut for a Galaxy S phone.
