Inland Revenue has disestablished the position of chief information officer. A spokesman says two IT divisions have been created, one to focus on day-to-day business and the other on future IT requirements and strategy.
“The CIO position has been disestablished as a result of these changes,” he says.
The manager of the two new groups will report to Tim Occleshaw, deputy commissioner information, design and systems.
The spokesman says the exact size of each group is still being determined. “There are no cuts to staff or budget in these groups proposed as part of the change,” he says.
“Acting managers will be announced shortly.”
When asked what will happen to current CIO Ross Hughson, he says: “We can make no further comment at this time.”
IRD is one of the largest IT user organisations in the country with 482 IT staff, according to the MIS 100. It always has major projects under way, whether these be implementing KiwiSaver, student loans systems or, as is currently being considered, completely replacing its core tax system.
