CallPlus makes it to Global CIO 100 awards

Internally produced BI solution is cited in annual IDC search for tech innovations.

CallPlus' internally-produced business intelligence solution propelled it to become the sole New Zealand company to make it as a 2011 CIO 100 winner. IDC, which conducts the annual search, says the award honours companies and their IT teams for innovations that advance business results.

The locally owned and operated telecommunications provider entered its BI solution called Nostro.

"Nostro is changing the way we do business by reducing operating costs, improving customer service levels, identifying process inefficiencies and making the company more responsive to market changes,” says Adrian Dick, chief technology officer at CallPlus.

He says the company digitally stores huge amounts of operational data in separate data silos. But Nostro creates “open roads” between the data sources and provides important information to business decision makers, he says. “They can analyse the data and spot gaps, trends, exceptions and opportunities in the real-time reports, without intervention of the IT group.”

He points out the solution was developed using existing database software within CallPlus, and has been integrated and supported entirely on the company’s internal resources. “Nostro is changing the way we do business by reducing operating costs, improving customer service levels, identifying process inefficiencies and making the company more responsive to market changes,” Dick says Call Plus is considerably smaller than many of the other honourees, “but has used its innovative spirit to compete in a global stage.” The recipients of the award were selected through a three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form detailing their innovative IT and business initiatives. Next, a team of judges reviewed the applications in depth, looking for unique practices and substantial results. Finally, CIO editors reviewed the judges' recommendations and voted on the final 100. The 2011 CIO 100 awards will be presented at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado on August 14 to 16 at the conclusion of the 16th annual CIO 100 Symposium.
