Campos joined Facebook in August 2010, from KLA-Tenco, where he was also CIO and vice president of information technology. Campos has an MBA from Columbia University and a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley.
He says his IT team has benefitted from operating inside a ground-breaking enterprise. "We've been fortunate enough to be right next to this huge source of new ideas and innovation - Facebook the product - and those new ideas and innovation are bleeding over to how we think and manage IT at this company," he says in an interview with CIO.
"Facebook is all about innovation. To be the best, we need to innovate. And for people to innovate, they need the freedom to make mistakes - it's part of the learning process."
The social networking company has been able to flourish in the "cloud computing world", he says.
“We are able to adopt to that across the board - 70 percent of our apps are running on the cloud, and allows us to move faster and more productive as a company."
A key lesson he has learned is to “embrace this change holistically not just to look at one specific area and adopt it.” The benefits are realised “once you are doing it across the board.”
