Apple for years rallied around its charismatic co-founder, Steve Jobs, so it's only natural now to question whether the company can retain its market dominance and magic with a new leader.

Market researcher Forrester has some unpleasant news for those of you running iPad apps in your enterprise. Forrester's iPad take: Chances are good that commercial apps don't protect sensitive data on an iPad or iPhone.

Microsoft has presented the Windows 8 user interface and displayed various devices on which the next version of Windows will run.

When the iPad 2 hit Apple stores, people couldn't wait to buy. Lines stretched around entire city blocks. At the Apple Store in Walnut Creek, Calif., a shopping mecca 30 miles east of San Francisco, people at the front of the line said they'd been waiting since 6 a.m. for the iPad 2 to go on sale at 5 p.m.

Improvements in real-time decision making and increased worker productivity are the key benefits for enterprises that have deployed tablet PCs.
Brett Gross, regional manager, Australia and New Zealand for Motion Computing, says this is particularly true for on-site staff in construction and utility and health workers, who are among the users of their ruggedised tablet PCs. He says they have also been getting calls from organisations involved in emergency services.

Tablet PCs are the in thing right now. In fact, you'd be hard put to walk into any sort of electronics store today and not be bombarded with displays for the latest and greatest tablet. But are tablets all they're cracked up to be? Or has Apple and its uber popular iPad duped consumers into tablet envy, and its competitors into a mad scramble to develop their own "iPad rivals?"

When Ben Fried left his post as IT managing director at Morgan Stanley and took over as Google's CIO in May 2008, he knew what he was getting into: supporting a user base full of technology experts and computer industry stars, like co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, CEO Eric Schmidt and Vice President Vint Cerf. In a recent interview with IDG News Service, Fried spoke candidly about his job and shared tips and advice for fellow CIOs, including the urgent need for tablet device strategies.
