  • RIM announced as official Rugby World Cup sponsor

Research in Motion (RIM) has been announced as one of the official sponsors for the Rugby World Cup. The BackBerry will also be the official handheld mobile device of the event in New Zealand.
“Rugby World Cup 2011 is an eagerly anticipated event in the Southern Hemisphere and it will be a very exciting time for rugby supporters and the people of the region. At RIM ANZ we really wanted to join the RWC 2011 team and get behind the people of New Zealand, the hosts of this global event,” says Adele Beachley, managing director ANZ for RIM.
“Our innovative BlackBerry smartphones and BlackBerry apps will allow RWC 2011 officials, referees and fans worldwide to communicate instantly and stay up to date with the rugby games in New Zealand. I’m sure there will be much banter being exchanged between fans using BlackBerry devices all over the world,” she adds.

  • A year of transformational and unpredictable change

The coming 12 months is set to be a year of transformational and unpredictable change for New Zealand ICT, reports IDC.
"The future of the telecommunications sector hangs in the balance, awaiting critical policy and commercial decisions that will begin a long-term deconstruction and reconstruction of the industry. All ICT markets will be impacted. At the same time, the current wave of disruptive technologies - mobile computing, cloud services and social networking - will mature from early adopter status," says Ullrich Loeffler, IDC New Zealand country manager.
