    After becoming the first local IT business to achieve carbon neutrality through Landcare Research’s carboNZero programme, Ricoh is encouraging others to follow suit.
    Managing director Mike Pollok says that while the world is going through some tough economic times, businesses all need to become more environmentally responsible or there will be serious consequences in the future.

  • Kiwi business lagging on Green issues

    New Zealand businesses are making changes that result in quick energy use reductions, but only a fifth have a formal sustainable development strategy, new research shows.
    Tech giant IBM and the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development canvassed 2302 business decision makers between February and March this year, including 200 IT managers, and found many were struggling to act sustainably.

    The big four accounting firms will this year take on more graduates from a non-accounting background than ever before as they seek to bolster their knowledge and skills base in areas of increasing global importance such as sustainability, water accounting and climate change.
    Between them, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG will find space for a total of more than 2000 graduates nationally, which must be good news for those just finished or close to finishing university, including those with science and engineering degrees.

    Microsoft's hostile offer for lagging internet portal Yahoo! has significant implications for the local internet landscape.
    In Australia, Microsoft's online arm is represented by ninemsn, a 10-year-old 50-50 joint venture with former Packer group PBL Media. Ninemsn is the No. 1 internet destination in Australia, helped by its use of the HotMail brand webmail service, which lands people automatically at ninemsn when they log into or out of the mail service.
