Cure Kids’ Red Nose Day appeal gets digital makeover

Aims to raise $1.2 million through interactive storybook app

Cure Kids has launched an interactive storybook app as a new innovative donation mechanism for its flagship fundraiser Red Nose Day.

Back Home to You, A Red Nose Fable is an imaginative children’s fable revealing the story behind the Red Nose and the real work Cure Kids does to deliver on its mission to fund “big research for little lives”.   

The interactive storybook app written and illustrated by Raymond McGrath, symbolises how research funded by Cure Kids brings hope to tamariki across New Zealand. 

The app includes both English and Te Reo Māori translations by the Toni Street and Stacey Morrison.  

Eva, the 11-year-old Cure Kids ambassador, also narrates her version of the story. 

September marks the Red Nose Day Appeal. Cure Kids is calling on Kiwis to discover the app, download the storybook, and through doing so, donate to the organisation. 

The storybook app is the result of a partnership between Cure Kids, author and illustrator; Raymond McGrath, interactive digital specialists, Kiwa Digital and communications agency Anthem.  

The app is available for both Android and Apple users and provides an engaging alternative to help Cure Kids reach its $1.2 million fundraising target.

 We wanted a fresh approach and to offer a sustainable way for Aotearoa to engage with Red Nose Day, and to focus the campaign around precious moments with loved ones, says Frances Benge, Cure Kids CEO. 

This is a first for Cure Kids, says Benge. “We know people love to help but life is busy and time with our whānau is precious. That’s why this Red Nose Appeal, we’ve created a magical storybook app that allows New Zealanders to help Cure Kids raise funds, while enjoying a precious moment with their tamariki.” 

Kiwa Digital developed the innovative app through its leading experiential technology.  

This app is interactive, educational and loaded with features like Swipe-to-Read so kids can highlight and play back the story at their own pace, Touch-to-Hear to have individual words spoken, and Touch-to-Spell to hear the letters that spell each word.
