CIO to CDO: Shayne Hunter takes top data and digital role at Ministry of Health

Hunter has been working in the health and disability sector for the past 15 years

The Ministry of Health has appointed Shayne Hunter as deputy director-general data and digital.

Before this, Hunter was chief information officer for Capital & Coast, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa district health boards where he has been a member of the executive leadership team for each district health board.  

He has been working in the last 15 years in the health and disability sector.

He currently chairs the Central Region DHB’s CIO group and was previously the chair of the Health Sector National IS Leaders Forum.

Prior to his role as CIO, he was advisor and project manager at the Ministry of Health.

He has also worked at IBM New Zealand, and left to establish a number of startup business based on emerging technologies. From there he moved on to delivery and leadership roles in government and the private sector.
