The public has less than a week to submit proposals for New Zealand’s Open Government Action Plan.

This is your opportunity to influence what government commits to doing over the next two years to be more open

Martin Rodgers, Engaging NZ

The Open Government Partnership (OGP) is an international programme where the governments of 70 countries have committed to becoming more open, accountable and responsive to citizens.

New Zealand joined the OGP in 2014 and is now developing its second National Action Plan (NAP).

The public has until Wednesday next week (24 August) to submit their proposals for New Zealand’s second action plan through this site.

"This is your opportunity to influence what government commits to doing over the next two years to be more open," says Martin Rodgers, director, Engaging NZ.

Think about what governments can do now that they couldn’t do in the past, thanks to technology and other developments.

The Open Government Partnership provided some guide questions for submission:

“When suggesting an action, think about what governments can do now that they couldn’t do in the past, thanks to technology and other developments. Ask what a great relationship between you (all citizens) and government could look like.

“Our government already does a lot of things well, so think about what these things are and then identify areas where you think things could be better. Remember to consider the practicalities around your suggestions such as: which government agencies would take responsibility for making it happen, how, who else would they need to work with?”
