Orion Health to deploy comprehensive hospital solution in the United Arab Emirates

Landmark agreement with Oasis maternity provider in Abu Dhabi will provide the hospital with a platform for precision medicine: Orion Health senior vice president David Leach.

Through the platform, the hospital can apply machine learning insights over the more comprehensive records.

We have been established in this part of the world for a number of years, but this is our first deployment for the Enterprise product stack, explains David Leach, Orion Health senior vice president, on the software company’s latest contract in the United Arab Emirates.

Leach says the "landmark" contract with major maternity provider Oasis Hospital in Abu Dhabi will see Orion Health deploy its Enterprise, Consult and Rhapsody systems throughout the hospital.

Leach says the hospital has been using Rhapsody, Orion’s integration engine, but Enterprise is a much larger, comprehensive product for the entire hospital, and requires a much more complex deployment as well.

“This product is really focused on the acute care setting of hospitals,” Leach tells CIO New Zealand.

He says the deployment provides the hospital with a platform for precision medicine, or personalised healthcare by capturing and analysing all relevant information to the patient’s health.

It collects data including those for appointments, pharmacy, laboratory results, radiology reports and even financial data, he says.

“We have designed the clinical views of the software to allow clinicians very quickly and easily see what is happening to the patient and help support in their clinical decision-making,” he states.

Through the platform, they can then apply machine learning insights over the more comprehensive records, he states.

Leach says Oasis Hospital is a progressive healthcare provider and has been at the forefront of providing world-class treatment for women, children and families in the Eastern Region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi for over 50 years.

Leach says the hospital is projected to grow 20 per cent annually. The Enterprise deployment will help it streamline the flow of information, and connect patient, clinical, ancillary and finance workflows across the hospital.

“There is an element of change management required here to really make sure the product is embedded properly and adopted and used the right way by the Oasis Hospital,” he states.

The deployment team is also augmented by some members of Orion Health’s team based in Istanbul, Turkey.

Oasis Hospital CIO Trevor Bunch says he is looking forward to working with Orion Health to improve the hospital’s service for the benefit of UAE’s growing population.

“It’s a sound solution with vast configurability that can be tailored precisely to our current and anticipated needs,” says Bunch, in a statement.
