CIO100 2015 reveals biggest ICT user in New Zealand

Annual report reveals key projects and top business and technology challenges for New Zealand’s biggest IT-using organisations.

Fonterra has been named the biggest IT-using organisation in New Zealand in CIO100, which ranks organisations based on screens, staff and turnover.

This year, Fonterra reported 34,890 total screens (including 8090 overseas), and a total of 1500 ICT staff.

The results of this year’s CIO100, the annual report on the top ICT using organisations in New Zealand, was announced at a breakfast forum at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland.

Joshua Bankers, Manager – Enterprise Build & Release of Fonterra received the Innovation Award trophy from Jason McHenry, NZ Manager, Financial Solutions at Cisco Capital, at the end of the event.

CIO100 is the flagship edition of CIO New Zealand and reports on the current strategies and future direction of the country's 100 largest technology users. The organisations are ranked based on screen numbers, staff and turnover.

Fonterra has consistently been in the top 10 of the CIO100 (then known as MIS100). Former Fonterra CIO Carl Moore was interviewed for the profile and cited the co-operative's global transformation program as its biggest ICT project this year.

Over the past year, the ICT team has implemented a new IS operating model and started four global programs of work in the areas of digital, planning, ERP and HR.

“The biggest challenges we face is the global standardisation of our processes with the introduction of shared services – to become a process-led organisation – and the start of our global digital program, to ensure a consistent face to customer and consumer alike,” says Moore, who resigned from his post last week. Simon Paparone, a partner at Ernst & Young, has been appointed interim CIO at Fonterra.
