Movers and shakers: Fonterra appoints interim CIO

Global search is on for replacement of Carl Moore

Fonterra has appointed Simon Paparone, a partner at Ernst & Young, as interim CIO following the resignation of Carl Moore.

There will be a global search for the replacement of Moore. Moore was director global process data and systems - global CIO at the diary giant for over a year-and-a-half. Originally from the UK, Moore joined Fonterra as project director in December 2012.

Fonterra is number two in CIO100 the annual report on the top IT using organisations in New Zealand, with over 19,400 screens and 174 IS staff.

Jim Swanson is now CIO at Xero. Before this he was director at PwC and CIO at Watercare.

Louis Grever, former FBI executive assistant director science and technology branch, is joining Wynyard Group as an independent company director effective April 2015.

In his 24-year career with the FBI, Grever was involved in leading, planning, coordinating and directing field technical operations including delivering technical capabilities to solve and prevent serious crime, cybercrime and counter-terrorism investigations.

Spotlight on Dimension Data

Dimension Data has just been certified as one of the top five global employers by the Top Employers Institute.

“This global award is great news for our local team: 600 people across New Zealand,” says Dimension Data NZ CEO Jo Healey.

“We think the team is engaged because they have the autonomy and flexibility of a local provider, backed by the resources and support of a global team. It’s a great benefit of being part of an international organisation – laser focus on local problems, combined with the resources of a global enterprise to solve them.”

“Our extensive research concluded that Dimension Data Global forms part of a select group of employers that advance employee conditions worldwide,” says Judith Oude Sogtoen, director of international business development for the Top Employers Institute.

“Their people are well taken care of. Now that they have received the Top Employers Global 2015 certification, they can truly consider themselves at the top of an exclusive group of the world’s best employers.”

Criteria for the award include talent management, leadership, training and development and initiatives to attract, retain and engage employee talent.

Dimension Data, meanwhile, has been appointed one of a few Microsoft Skype for Business Global Elite Launch Partners.

This follows today’s announcement by Microsoft that the next version of its communications and collaboration tool, Microsoft Lync – now called Skype for Business – will be ready for sale in the first half of 2015.

When Microsoft acquired Skype in 2011, the company said Skype was a communications tool for outside the firewall, while Lync was an offering for inside the firewall.

Now, the next version of Skype for Business truly connects Lync to the vast Skype network which includes thousands of Dimension Data’s clients, employees and partners.

“As a Microsoft strategic partner for over a decade, we’re very excited about Skype for Business," says Neville Burdan, GM for end-user computing APAC, Dimension Data.
