Under the agreement, Dimension Data will augment the current Compute-as-a-Service (CaaS) system with a managed hosting offering that delivers extreme performance, flexibility with cost-effectiveness for high transaction volumes in Kathmandu’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
This will allow Kathmandu to monitor and take action on key metrics such as global stock levels in real time.
“We are able to craft custom solutions for specific parts of our business, which is extremely valuable,” says Grant Taylor, CIO at Kathmandu, in a statement.
“This means we can scale rapidly to meet the demands of our business, especially during our major sales, to place the right products in the right locations at the right times.”
Kathmandu, a retailer of travel and adventure clothing and equipment, has more than 1500 staff in over a hundred stores, distribution centres and offices in New Zealand, Australia, and the UK.
Dimension Data’s managed hosting offering differs from the CaaS system because it contains dedicated customisable infrastructure, shaped for Kathmandu’s specific requirements. This then connects to the public platform securely via high speed links to provide an overall hybrid cloud approach.
“For Kathmandu, this means providing the IT infrastructure and support models that give their customers the freedom to explore – regardless of destination,” says James Walls, chief technology manager at Dimension Data NZ.
He says Dimension Data has 13 managed cloud platforms around the world, so Kathmandu gets the benefits of locally-hosted data and a local team, along with the flexibility to expand to more locations as the business expands globally.
