Movers and shakers: Craig Soutar of NZ Transport Agency and Ken Holley of Liberate IT

A roundup of the latest business technology executive appointments and events in New Zealand and Australia.

The New Zealand Transport Agency and Unisys have received a special recognition award at the 2014 Information Services Group (ISG) Paragon awards for Australia and New Zealand.

“Unisys showed a clear understanding of our business goals and the need to use IT to meet them, says Craig Soutar, NZTA CIO.

“They designed and implemented an innovative transformation program that modernised our existing systems by migrating them onto a Windows platform. This reduced system complexity and increased flexibility as well as provided the opportunity to develop new online and mobile channels to engage with customers. We are delivering our business transformation without the need to completely rip out and replace our systems, and continued to deliver services to our customers in the process.”

“Our two-decade relationship with NZTA thrives on collaboration as well as mutual understanding of the relationship between business and IT goals, says Steve Griffin, Unisys NZ country manager.

“Long term relationships are an opportunity to use deep shared knowledge as a platform for continued improvement. For example, most recently we worked together to develop a modernisation program that allowed NZTA to meet its business transformation goals to reduce costs, reflect business changes quickly, and offer new service channels to citizens.”

Ken Holley joins Liberate IT, which has the largest dedicated NetSuite team in New Zealand, as business development manager. Holley has worked at Fronde and Intergen, and was head of technology at Loyalist.

Silicon Valley-educated execs launch Kiwi start-up

Two Silicon Valley educated executives - Kenneth Ho and Charles La have launched a tech start-up which they say is designed to revolutionise the local cleaning industry.

The SpongeHero site will use a sophisticated algorithm to pair independent cleaning contractors with customers based on a number of criteria relevant to their needs and the cleaner’s availability.

"The new cloud based platform that goes online today will use technology to allow customers greater flexibility and efficiency when making bookings and monitoring the quality of service. Future enhancements to the platform will provide clients with more visibility around the time it takes the cleaner to perform the service, and the actual work that has been performed, both of which have been major issues within the industry previously," says Ho.
