Movers and shakers: New CIO at AMP, Google exec joins Snakk

A roundup of the latest business technology executive appointments and events in New Zealand and Australia.

AMP operates primarily in New Zealand and Australia. It has approximately 372,000 customers in New Zealand, and is the largest provider of workplace savings schemes and a default KiwiSaver provider.

Robb says he starts in his new role in October and is looking forward to leading some exciting digital and technology initiatives. He will be reporting to Kevin Bouchier, chief operating officer at AMP

Robb is currently head of technology at ANZ Bank, and before that he was head of IT at Genesis Energy.

He has an extensive experience in finance ICT executive roles including stints at IAG and ASB.

Former Google exec is Snakk’s inaugural CFO

Snakk Media has appointed Bob Mohan as the company’s inaugural chief financial officer.

Mohan joins Snakk from Google where he spent the last 11 years working across the search engine giant’s corporate finance operations, including leading the merger and acquisition efforts for more than 130 acquisitions such as Android, DoubleClick and YouTube.

US-born Mohan joined Google in the US a year before its 2004 IPO, then moved to Sydney in 2009 to lead the company’s Asia Pacific accounting team of 30 members across six regional offices.

NZAX-listed Snakk Media helps brands find and reach consumers using apps, games and social media on their smartphones, tablets and other smart screens.

Designertech marks 20 years of technological innovation

One of Auckland’s longest established IT companies, Designer Technology Ltd (Designertech), is celebrating its 20th year this week.

The company, which developed MailMarshal and WebMarshal Internet security products, has evolved and thrived through turbulent and striking changes in the digital landscape, says CEO Ray Delany.

“We have worked with the massive expansion of information technology in New Zealand and witnessed first-hand the changes affecting the small to medium business sector, including the move online by Kiwi businesses,” says Delany.

“Our recently launched Frank Consulting product is another evolution for the company, because it switches Designertech’s focus from a technology and people way of thinking to one of that is more business outcomes orientated.

“Frank is our ‘information management consulting division’, which was created to help companies identify the best strategic solutions for their business, in an age of complex technology and multiple solutions,” says Delany.

Microsoft previews new MSN for New Zealand

Microsoft has unveiled a first look at the new MSN for New Zealand, combining premium content from leading media outlets with personal productivity tools to help consumers do more.

The site will be launched in upcoming months, and will be extended to mobile apps across major device platforms, including Windows, iOS and Android, according to a statement from Microsoft.

“We have re-written MSN from the ground up for a mobile-first, cloud first world,” said Adam Anger, general manager for Asia Pacific, Microsoft Advertising.

“The new MSN brings together quality media sources with the data and services that help people get more done. And because it’s a single platform, once you personalise, you get the same experience everywhere – on every device that works for your life.”

CallPlus appoints new heads of Orcon and Flip

CallPlus Group has appointed two new leaders to head up its Orcon and Flip brands.

Mike Shirley, previously GM of Flip, becomes GM of Orcon, while Flip marketing manager Scott Hoogerbrug takes the role of head of Flip.
