Tait Communications, has implemented a trial digital communications system for a 48,000-strong police force in Minas Gerais, Brazil, designed to enhance communications during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Tait has installed and will monitor the ongoing performance of the P25 digital network for Minas Gerais Military Police (PMMG) in the state capital Belo Horizonte, which has so far hosted five World Cup games with a semi-final to be played on July 8.
“Hosting the FIFA World Cup is a momentous occasion for Brazil that will see our cities and towns visited by tens of thousands of people from around the world,” says Cel Humbertos, spokesperson for Minas Gerais.
“At this critical time in Brazil’s history, we need to concentrate on our core business of maintaining law and order. Knowing that Tait will have a team of experts monitoring our network around the clock gives us piece of mind and means that we can focus our resources on protecting the local people, visitors and world cup players during the tournament.”
Tait will actively monitor the network, deliver daily performance reports, and take action to enhance network performance, if necessary, via one of its global services management centres, says Judd Cain, Tait executive vice president global services.

This latest system deployment builds on Tait’s fast-growing footprint in Latin America. Other Tait clients in the region include São Paulo Military and Civil Police, Companhia Paranaense de Energia (COPEL) and Petrobras.
Cain says despite strong competition in the region, Latin America is a key area of focus for Tait.
“We see a lot of opportunities in the Latin American market across our all our key markets including public safety, utilities, and oil and gas. We understand the region and what our clients need and we’re focused on delivering solutions that will help them protect and serve their local communities.”
