Datacom acquires Origen Technology

Tauranga-based company provides software for around 20 percent of New Zealand local governments.

Datacom has acquired Origen Technology, based in Tauranga, which provides software to around 20 per cent of New Zealand local government councils.

Origen has developed and deployed Ozone, an enterprise software platform for local authorities. Ozone manages core functions across regulatory, financial and customer service workloads for the local government sector. It is currently being used by approximately 20 per cent of New Zealand Councils.

Datacom says the Origen team and the Ozone product strengthens its presence in delivering software, services and infrastructure for local authorities. Datacom says its software and services are being used by around 70 per cent of councils in New Zealand.

“Our clear goal is to be the partner of choice for the design, delivery and operation of technology based solutions and services for local government – furthering our vision of Sustainable Councils and Engaged Communities,” Jonathan Usher, managing director, Datacom Solutions, says in a press statement.

“A key near term priority is to ensure cloud deployment options for Ozone as well as regulatory module support for the Australian local government sector, which we expect to be available this year.”

Origen staff will join Datacom’s Australasian-wide local government solutions team but will continue to be based in Tauranga.
