The CIO Summit, New Zealand’s premier, two-day gathering for ICT leaders, will be held on July 20 and 21 at the SkyCity Convention Centre. The event will also include a gala dinner on July 20 where the winners of the CIO of the Year sponsored by NetApp and the IT Excellence in Recruitment Awards sponsored by the Information Technology Contract and Recruitment Association (ITCRA) will be announced. The entries for these awards will be opening shortly.
The 2009 winners were Julia Raue of Air New Zealand as CIO of the Year, and Candle ICT for Excellence in ICT recruitment.
The conference will kick off with international keynote speaker, Dr Peter Wilton, senior lecturer at the Haas School of Business, University of California in Berkeley, on “The CIO as Strategist: Architecting for Leadership, Growth and Innovation”.
Andre Mendes, CIO/CTO, US Broadcasting Board of Governors – International, will deliver the international keynote presentation on ‘Crisis driven innovation’ on the second day.
Gabrielle Davies, change architect, will share insights on how and where the next-generation communication solutions can shape enterprise improvements to service delivery, transform back office processes and increase productivity.
One of the key sessions at the CIO Summit is a leaders’ panel on “Should CIOs help drive the business, or align with the business?”. The panel is composed of Damian Swaffield, business consultant and former CIO of TVNZ, who will be the moderator; Julia Raue, Air New Zealand; Alma Hong, NZ Fire Service; Tanya Harris, The Reserve Bank of New Zealand; and Kevin Drinkwater, Mainfreight.
Rosalie Nelson, research manager – telecommunications at IDC and lawyer Michael Wigley will discuss the state of New Zealand telecommunications.
Hamish Grant, CIO, Ezibuy, will speak from the point of view of a commercially focused CIO, and the steps to take on building a customer-centric IT strategy and winning culture. Mike Clarke, SkyCity CIO, will speak on the ‘value disciplines’ regarded by Treacy and Wiersema as the key to company success.
