Qantas has announced plans to kit out its club members' lounges at airports across the country exclusively with Apple technology before the end of the year. The agreement with Apple is an attempt by the airline to set itself apart from market rival Virgin Blue by aligning with the consumer electronics giant's popular technology.
Qantas has been in discussions about the possibility of providing Apple's iPads in its lounges but the popular tablet devices were a notable absentee in the plans unveiled yesterday, according to a report in the Australian Financial Review.
A Qantas spokeswoman said customers still preferred computers with keyboards to send emails and search the internet, but discussions on the iPad were continuing.
The new technology, which includes latest-generation Mac computers, is now available in the Qantas Club lounge in Sydney.
The spokeswoman said the computers would be fitted with Microsoft software for members who preferred to work in a Windows environment. Users will not be charged for using the technology.
