healthAlliance has signed a Statement of Support with the New Zealand arm of the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) on International Women’s Day.

WEPs is governed by UN Women in New York and it supports and promotes gender diversity and equality around the world.

Its seven principles offer businesses guidance on how to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and the community.

“We’re very proud to now be a part of WEPs and everything it stands for, and signing our Statement of Support on International Women’s Day makes it all the more significant,” says healthAlliance CEO Myles Ward.

Vicky Mee, chair of UN WEPs Committee New Zealand, congratulated healthAlliance for its support of the principles which “provide a  framework for holistic workplace policies that empower women and advance equality and inclusion”.

‘Those principles are a great fit with the International Women’s Day 2019 theme: ‘A balanced world is a better world’ and we look forward to celebrating healthAlliance's commitment on this special day,” says Mee.

Ward says signing up with WEPs is a natural progression to their existing gender diversity and inclusion initiatives of the Northern region district health boards’ shared service agency.

“We have been working hard to foster a culture that embraces, develops and recognises our female employees over recent times,” says Ward.
