Apple Pay coming to ANZ Bank customers

Security and privacy at the core of the mobile payment system, says ANZ.

ANZ Bank says Apple Pay will be available to its customers with a Visa Debit or personal ANZ Visa credit card.

The bank says Apple Pay will transform mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay that’s fast and convenient.

In a statement, ANZ CEO New Zealand David Hisco said: “More than 50 per cent of ANZ Visa transactions are contactless and this number is steadily increasing as more retailers adopt contactless technology.

“Adding Apple Pay to our mobile payment offering will make it fast and convenient for more customers to securely make everyday purchases wherever there is a contactless terminal.”

“Following on from our highly successful goMoney mobile banking app, ANZ is pleased to continue leading the industry with innovative solutions for customers.”

Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay, says ANZ.

We’re confident they will enjoy this easy, simple and secure way to pay without having to present cards or cash.

It explains when you use a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers.

Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device. Each transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code.

“Our customers asked us for Apple Pay and we’re thrilled they can now use it, continuing our commitment to giving our customers innovative digital ways to do their banking,” said Liz Maguire, ANZ New Zealand head of digital and transformation.

“We’re confident they will enjoy this easy, simple and secure way to pay without having to present cards or cash.”

Apple Pay can be used anywhere you can tap and pay in New Zealand, including at major retailers BP, The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, Noel Leeming, Torpedo 7, McDonalds, Domino’s Pizza and Burger King.

In stores, Apple Pay works with iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and later, and Apple Watch.
